According to the State Records NSW website, "This volume was a records kept by a convict overseer Timothy Cusack, whose chief responsibility was the working oxen employed by the various Road Gangs being rested at Mulgoa. The Monthly returns record the number or name of each gang, the district where it was working, the name of the overseer and where he was stationed, and details of the oxen. There are also detailed returns of the convicts employed at Mulgoa noting name ship and how employed. Cusack retained the volume after he left government service. During 1847-1849 when he was the publican of the Bay Horse Inn on Cowpasture Road at Liverpool he used it to record his inn accounts."
